Sometimes I dream of you at night Sometimes my hand closes on yours in the fight It takes some courage to want good with my history So please tell me again why someone like you would long for me Sometimes I think I need a quiet mountain girl Forget the politics and just be in our world Sometimes I think domestic bliss is all we'd need Cuz if we'll live forever we won't need to speed Why does it feel so subversive to want good things? We're so miserable but we're rich as kings Does everyone around me have open minds, closed hearts? What have I become with my open mind, closed heart? No wonder we're so lonely Somehow I think we get to choose what we become We take the cards we're dealt and learn to overcome The ancient answers never change in spite of you Just give them half a chance, I swear that they will follow through Why does it feel so subversive to want good things? We're so miserable but we're rich as kings Does everyone around me have open minds, closed hearts? What have I become with my open mind, closed heart? No wonder we're so lonely Your mind's been open but your heart's been shut tight You grew it hard so you could face the fight But you have to learn to grow a thicker skin Maybe it's time to open up again So say hello

I know you don't like a preacher for long If he never tells you a lie So go wander off to your dreamer He's got answers in endless supply Silver tongued men are everywhere Starving for your attention They take the time to find the key For you to let them in But careful with your dreamer Careful with your dreamer Careful with your dreamer Careful with your dreamer At least you can trust a liar to lie At least he knows what's wrong But the dreamer is blinded by stars in his eyes His ears are deaf from song His misguided mind craves novelty So he fashions his own reality Where some see delusion, he see his revolution And he'll chase it endlessly So careful with a dreamer Careful with a dreamer Careful with a dreamer Careful with a dreamer For news of the fully waking world You must go to my betters What do I know? I'm just a slave Locked in my chains and fetters Seldom do I have the courage to try To wake and taste reality Where ice really freezes and fire really burns And every fiction dies So careful with your dreamer Careful with a dreamer Careful with a dreamer Careful with a dreamer

Easy Ones 04:45
You go for the easy ones The smart ones stay away Soon as the fair weather changes She's come to her senses and you You lost your interest Now your youth is running out Winter is coming but you threw away it all And there's nothing for the fall Nothing for the fall I used to look up to you I see now we were both fools Are you just a scared little boy Who never really learned to turn his into tools Now your youth is running out Winter is coming but you threw away it all And there's nothing for the fall Nothing for the fall Please don't make me go alone I need somebody here to lean on But if you're not done with these games I won't look back at you when I walk away Cuz my youth is running out Winter is coming and you're throwing away it all There'll be nothing for the fall Nothing for the fall

Teeth 03:55
Come to my house, let's go sit by the creek I see you're stressed so you don't have to speak But I've been waiting to see your face all day Let's just unwind right here in the summer shade Don't be afraid to soak in the light Cuz fear feeds and thrives on the night And don't be stupid, trying to do it all alone I've got some extra fire if you wanna take out a loan Go down the path polarizing Dig down and figure out who's lying You'll find the ones who can take it when your teeth begin to show Go down the path polarizing Dig down and figure out who's lying You'll find the ones who can take it when your teeth begin to show Look at the bats hunting up in the air I know they're weird, they're like birds with teeth and hair But we love em cuz they're eating the mosquitos I think we all agree we don't need any more of those And all I'm trying to say is everything serves a purpose And not thing that you see here is worthless Go down the path polarizing Dig down and figure out who's lying You'll find the ones who can take it when your teeth begin to show Go down the path polarizing Dig down and figure out who's lying You'll find the ones who can take it when your teeth begin to show And I want to see you when you come into your own And I think you'll think get used to walking on your own two feet Don't ever get too cool to need your loved ones I've never been too cool to love you And don't mistake my kindness for weakness Cuz you're a handful

about

That's my younger brother on the cover, looking out over the flooded creek by our house between two mountain ridges in southwestern Virginia. It was around Christmas in 2015 and the unseasonably warm, wet weather from El Nino was in full force. I took this picture of him watching the flood waters, lost in thought.

The way this picture makes me feel is similar to the way I feel when I watch the world. Like I'm standing on the edge of a flooded stream, close enough to feel its force but standing also on firm ground.

These four songs are just a small dip into the 40+ plus songs I've completed since I first tried my hand at lyric writing at age 16, ten years ago. Two of them come from the place of peace and tranquility I felt as a kid out in the country, that feeling my little brother conveys with his pose in this photo. The other two come from the times I had to wade into the floodwaters and fight the currents myself.

Although these songs are personal and honest, I hope that anyone and everyone can find something in the lyrics and the music that they relate to. And I hope to get the chance to do this again.

Enjoy.
